Diesel Technician Jobs & Fleet Careers
Good diesel techs are hard to find — so we work hard to be the place they want to stay. Heartland Fleet is a locally owned mobile fleet maintenance company serving the Kansas City metro, Omaha, and the wider Midwest. We keep America's fleets rolling, and we're always looking for skilled people who take pride in doing the job right.
We're Midwest natives who know a thing or two about Midwest values: show up, do honest work, and take care of the people who count on you.
If that sounds like you, we'd like to talk — whether we have an opening posted today or not.

Mobile Diesel Technician — KC Metro
Perform preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, advanced computer diagnostics, and DOT inspections on light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles — mobile at the customer's location. You'll run your own service truck, manage your parts inventory, and keep fleets on the road.
We're looking for 5+ years of diesel maintenance and repair experience, your own hand tools, a valid driver's license, and solid computer skills for diagnostics and documentation. CDL, welding experience, and ASE certifications are a plus.
Heavy Duty Service Writer
Be the link between our customers and our technicians. You'll create and manage work orders, build estimates, coordinate parts, schedule mobile and shop jobs, and keep customers updated from drop-off to invoice.
We're looking for 3+ years as a service writer or advisor (heavy-duty or trucking preferred), knowledge of diesel trucks and trailers, strong computer skills with shop management software, and the ability to translate technical issues into plain language customers understand.
Outside Sales Account Executive
Help grow Heartland by bringing on new fleet accounts and nurturing the ones we have. This is a base-plus-commission role with real earning potential and schedule flexibility. We provide qualified leads; you'll also hunt your own.
We're looking for 1–3 years of outside sales or account management, ideally with automotive, trucking, diesel, or logistics experience, plus strong negotiation skills and a self-driven streak.
Shop Assistant / Parts Runner
Keep our shop running and our techs equipped. You'll deliver and pick up parts, restock and organize service trucks, manage inventory, keep the shop and yard clean, and pitch in on basic tasks alongside our diesel technicians. It's a hands-on role and a real foot in the door with a growing company.
We're looking for someone dependable and eager to learn, with basic mechanical know-how, a valid driver's license and clean driving record, and the ability to lift 50+ lbs. Must be 22 or older (insurance requirement). The work is a mix of indoor shop and outdoor yard duties, with some early mornings and occasional weekends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need my own tools?
Technicians provide their own hand tools, adequate to perform the job safely and effectively. We provide the service truck, diagnostic equipment, gas card, and uniforms — so you bring your skills and your tools, and we handle the rest.
What experience do I need to be a technician?
For our Mobile Diesel Technician role, we look for about 5 years of diesel maintenance and repair experience. A CDL, welding experience, and ASE or other certifications are all pluses but not required. If you're a strong tech who's a little short on years, apply anyway and tell us about your work.
Is the work mobile, in a shop, or both?
Both. Most of our work is mobile — you drive a fully equipped service truck out to customer terminals, warehouses, and yards. Heavier repairs that need shop time happen at our Independence, MO location.
Do you hire outside of Kansas City?
Our shop is in Independence, MO, and we also serve Omaha, NE and the surrounding Midwest. As we expand, we add roles in new markets. If you're in the region and don't see your city listed, get in touch — we're growing fast.
What if there are no openings posted?
Apply anyway. We keep qualified candidates on file and reach out as soon as a matching role opens. Good people are worth waiting for, and we'd rather know you're out there before we need you.

Don't See Your Role?
We're always looking for talented diesel technicians, mechanics, and fleet professionals — even when nothing's posted
The technician shortage is real, and the good ones rarely stay on the job market long. So if you've got the skills and the work ethic, reach out anyway. We'll keep your information on file and get in touch the moment the right opening comes up.
